Is Gen AI killing Amazon?
Probably not. Amazon is still far more than a marketplace. It owns fulfilment, trust, reviews, advertising inventory and an enormous customer base.
But AI-driven shopping may challenge something Amazon has long controlled: the moment a buyer discovers what to buy and where to buy it.
If an agent can identify the right product and send the customer directly to a manufacturer, the usual maze of sponsored listings, cross-sells and marketplace dependency starts to look less inevitable.
That could matter most for brands that make their own products and are tired of handing margin, customer data and visibility to a third party.
